Spring has sprung here on Lake Erie and of course we can’t wait to get out on the lake…or can we? Not only is a weather report required for my daily Captain’s log, it should be a must for all boaters who want to venture out on the lake in spring time! Lake temperature is low (especially this year) and with our typical spring winds and weather patterns a leisurely trip on the family boat can become a real nightmare. Lake Erie and her tributaries are such a treat to be out on until the weather changes. It is no secret that this vast waterway can become one of the most difficult in the world to manage. As mariners, we get so excited about getting away from our docks and enjoying the lake. Please take a moment to make a few quick checks. Use your vessels VHF and tune into the current weather conditions for your area. Or, use your smartphone and your favorite weather app that provides real-time conditions. One of my favorites is www.crh.noaa.gov/greatlakes/.

Onboard the Nautica Queen, passenger and guest safety is paramount. My decisions of where we cruise are greatly determined by what Mother Nature has in store for us that particular day. Probably would be a good idea for you to take a few moments to make some similar determinations. Remember, better safe than sorry!

As the Nautica Queen’s season unfolds be sure to watch for our daily cruise schedule and our upcoming special events here at The Nautica Entertainment Complex.

See you on board the Queen!
